Special message for our english readers

I have family in the US. My fathers brother Roland moved there in the 50's (or was it the 60's?). He met Pam and they got their son Eric, my cousin. He is now married to Courtney and as it turns out, they are now expecting a baby of their own.

Roland speaks swedish of course, and I know that both Pam and Eric understands a bit of swedish but I thought I should write just a little bit in english so that they feel they are welcome to this blog as well.

The story begins last friday. Anna was one week past the expected date, so we had an appointment at the hospital. They examined her and we got a time on saturday where they were to start the labour by medical assistance. We went home, but in the afternoon, it started by itself with regular contractions. We called the hospital a couple of times and they said that we should wait at home as long as possible. At 9pm the contractions were just 3 minutes a part and we couldn't wait anymore so we took the car and headed for Södersjukhuset, also know as SÖS.

After the initial examination, we were left in a room by ourselves. They had a machine hooked to the babys head to measure the heart rate. They checked on us now and then, and helped Anna relax and breath during the contractions. At around 4.30 am it was time for the delivery. Anna had been breathing nitrous oxide, and also had some epidural which made it a bit easier for her (well, easy is maybe not the right word here). Finally, 5.32, with the help of a vacuum extractor, a baby boy was born!

We had to stay at the hospital until Wednesday. Baby Hannes was a bit yellowish, not that much so that he needed any special treatment, but they wanted to take regular blood samples and also they measured the color on his forehead with a device. He did not like that at all.

The days at home are pretty similar from day to day. He eats a bit, he sleeps, he throws up a bit and he fills his diapers. A lot. The laundry machine runs every day, at least once. We are out walking (in the snow!) with our Brio stroller and he loves it.

Finally I want to say THANK YOU for the lovely gifts that we received. Yesterday there were a package in the mail, with some great baby clothes. There were a golf outfit for when he is 18 months old, that we will have to put away until then, but he will look stunning in it! There were also some cute shirts that he can use in just a couple of months. I will take some pictures of him wearing it later on.
